One of my favorite lighthouses is in the Village of Anglesea, North Wildwood New Jersey and its called the
Hereford Inlet Lighthouse. This lighthouse sits about 3 blocks from our beach condo and overlooks the Hereford Inlet and the Atlantic Ocean.
It has beautifully landscaped grounds with numerous floral gardens and butterfly habitats that you can stroll around in for free! There is only a charge if you decide to go inside the lighthouse for a tour. The lighthouse is open year around. The lighthouse is a working lighthouse as well as a museum. The lighthouse was built in 1874. You can read about the history of this lighthouse on their wonderful web site.
We try to visit the lighthouse and gardens at least once a year. Behind the lighthouse and overlooking the bay is a mini boardwalk with comfortable park benches that you can sit on and view the ocean and scenery. There is also a nice clean beach behind the lighthouse which is great for a romantic picnic lunch. Within walking distance of the Hereford Inlet Lighthouse are several pubs, restaurants, bars and pizza shops. After visiting the lighthouse, you can grab a quick bite to eat.
This is one of my favorite lighthouses to visit and the beauty of this lighthouse is just incredible. The next time you visit the Wildwood, Stone Harbor, Avalon or Cape May New Jersey areas...make sure you plan an afternoon trip to the Hereford Inlet Lighthouse!
