We love visiting Zoo's and we are very fortunate that we have a small zoo here in our local city of Hershey in Pennsylvania. Although our zoo is not very large, it is very nice!
Last weekend we took the family down to ZooAmerica to spend the afternoon. The parking is FREE and it costs $10.50 per adult and $8.50 for kids ages 3 to 8 years of age. As soon as you pay to get into the zoo there is a gift shop to your right and restrooms to your left.
We took the stroller for Little G as she gets tired after an hour or so of walking. The zoo paths are wide enough for strollers which is really nice and there are restrooms and snack/beverage booths throughout the zoo.
We saw barn owls, snowy owls and various other birds right after we got into the zoo. We went into the small mammal and reptile building and saw a variety of animals in there too. I personally didn't care for the snakes at all but my hubby really enjoyed those!
As we continued through the zoo we saw river otters, canadian lynx, skunk, praire dogs, elk, ducks, swans, black bears, fish, wolf and various other animals. We do suggest that you take several quarters into the zoo with you if you are bringing children along so they can put them into the machines to get corn to feed to the ducks & swans. Little G really loved doing that!
It took us about 1 1/2 hours to through the entire zoo but we could of done it quicker if we wanted to. It makes for a great family afternoon at the zoo and it's really clean and airy. During the summertime when it's hot outside we do suggest that you go early in the morning or later in the evening as many people hog up the benches in the shade so plan on standing or sitting in the sun if you go in the middle of the afternoon.
We had a great time and will be going back again later this fall. The only drawback to this zoo is that the food and beverages are super expensive! Make sure you eat before you go to the zoo otherwise you will be paying a lot of money for that hot zoo-park lunch! Enjoy your visit to ZooAmerica!
