Back in late September of 2012, my family took a day trip up to
Memorial Lake State Park in Fort Indiantown Gap, Pennsylvania. This is a large state park and is open all year long. During the Spring, Summer and Fall seasons you can find boating and fishing activities, and during the winter season you can find some skiing, ice skating and ice fishing activities.
note: You can click on the photos in this blog post to enlarge them!
You can rent canoes, kayaks and paddle boats, and take them out onto the lake for some great family time. They also have a boat ramp, so you can bring your own boats and take those out to save money. My brother loves to go fishing on Memorial Lake and said the fishing is quite good!
All around the lake you will find numerous picnic areas with picnic tables, some with covered pavilions and outdoor charcoal grills. If you are planning a large family picnic or event, you can rent one of the larger picnic pavilions (for a small fee) which includes electrical hook-up. Almost all of the picnic areas have a beautiful view of Memorial Lake.
There are male and female restrooms with running water and modern plumbing. On the day we visited, the restrooms were very clean which surprised me! There is also a "family" restroom for those who have small children with them located in the "Middle Road" parking area.
If you love to hike, they have 2 miles of beautiful hiking trails that are really easy to walk. We had my 67 year old mother along with us and a 3 1/2 year old toddler, and both of them had NO PROBLEMS walking the hiking trails along with us.
The family had a great time and now we are planning a large family reunion to be held in late May 2013 up at Memorial Lake State Park. We are really looking forward to visiting the park again and having a great time!
