Central Park
We start with one of the most obvious choices, the world famous Central Park. The park is a must-see attraction for anyone visiting the city, offering up an escape from the hustle and bustle of the surrounding streets. The park has been the heart of New York City for over 150 years and it makes for a great destination for a picnic. If you're looking for a little additional entertainment, there are also boat rides on offer on the park's lake.
Known simply as the 'MET', the Metropolitan Museum of Art is home to over 2 million works of art from all over the globe. This stunning gallery has to be one of the city's most important cultural sites and you can easily spend most of a day here. The vast and diverse collection means you're bound to find something interesting.
A trip to New York City wouldn't be complete without taking the time to visit the famous Statue of Liberty. This American symbol of freedom was gifted to the United States in honor of the friendship forged during the American Revolution and was historically the first sight for many of the immigrants heading to the USA looking for a better life. The interior of the statue is unfortunately closed for refurbishment at the moment, but you can still get close on a tour of Liberty Island.
We finish with another important cultural site in the city, the American Museum of Natural History. This impressive museum is home to a wide collection of exhibits, covering everything from ancient fossils through to modern scientific discoveries. Visitors to the museum will also get the chance to see one of a revolving series of temporary exhibits, meaning there's always something new to see.
This is obviously just a small taste of all that this stunning city has to offer; there really is so much more to discover. So, next time you're looking for an American holiday destination, why not consider New York City?
