For my review I received the newly re-released DK Eyewitness Travel Guides - New York City guide that contains 1,072 photographs, a pull-out map of New York City, 112 illustrations and 440 pages in length. This is one of the MOST extensive and easy-to-read travel guides for New York City that I have ever seen!
My husband and I have traveled up to New York City several times. We live in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania so it is only a 2 1/2 to 3 hour drive for us. If you have never visited New York City, let me tell you...you definitely need a guide book and a few very detailed maps! You can get lost pretty quickly and there are a ton of one-way streets!
The guide book is broken down into several nice chapters and it is very easy to locate the items you are interested in. The book and chapters are color coded with a key inside the front cover. For example: Lower Manhattan is on pages 66-81 and color coded a peach color. The Upper East Side is on pages 184-205 and color coded a yellow/orange color. Even the maps are color coded so you can find what you are looking for quickly & easily.

The photography throughout the book is gorgeous and all of the illustrations are very detailed & realistic. There is a modern-day pull-out map which is very detailed & accurate. One of my favorite chapters is the Travelers' Needs section which includes places & ideas on where to stay, where to eat & drink, where to find shopping, entertainment in New York City and even a section on things you can do in the city with children!
I love that the maps show you the airports, heliports, train stain, subway, bus terminal, police stations, hospitals, public & paid parking lots, churches, public telephone, restrooms, cafes, shopping centers, etc. Seriously, they are very detailed!
Overall, this is one of the best, if NOT the BEST travel guide book I have ever seen! We are heading back up to New York City in the Fall and this travel guide is going to make our visit a whole lot easier. I am giving it a 9 1/2 stars out of 10 stars on my rating scale. I only deducted a 1/2 star because I would love to have it in a hardcover edition.

I haven't been to NYC but would love to. I would love to take a road trip to the northeast and see the lighthouses. I enjoy going to the beaches and Everglades in Florida, but I would love to see the northeast.

We love going to local places and acting like tourists! We go to the city often and like to ride the ferry to the State of Liberty and Ellis Island. --jmlivigni@hotmail.com
My favorite travel destination so far has been either London, England or Portland, OR! I really love the atmosphere of both cities, and there are infinite things to do! I have never been to NY but I would love to go someday. I would love to go for Christmas and see all of the lights and shops decorated!
