I admit, I'm not too fond of reptiles unless they're turtles. For some reason, I've always been afraid of snakes and most other reptiles. I know some people love them, I'm just not one of them. However, I do feel it's important for adults and children to educate themselves about them and you can do that at
Clyde Peeling's Reptiland in Allenwood Pennsylvania.
Clyde Peeling's Reptiland is open year round, but their hours of operation depends on the season. Before planning your visit, you'll want to check their website for the current operating schedule, admission fees and schedule of events.
The zoo is broken down into four main exhibit areas: Dinosaurs Come to Life, Parakeet Landing, Exhibit Gallery and the Island Giants. You'll find free on-site parking and once your done with your visit, you can shop for souvenirs in their little gift shop.
Dinosaurs Come to Life features life-sized exhibits of animatronic dinosaurs that seem to come to life. These animatronic dinosaurs make all kinds of different noises. You'll meet T-Rex, Utahraptor, Carnotaurus and more. This is a seasonal attraction, weather permitting since it's outdoors. You can walk through this exhibit at your own leisurely pace.
My grandchildren love visiting
Parakeet Landing which is an indoor aviary with hundreds of different parakeets. These birds are people-friendly and you can purchase a birdseed stick and the parakeets will fly down and land on the stick that your holding to eat their food. This is a really cool experience for kids and adults and we highly recommend it.
The
Exhibit Gallery features 40 different species all under one roof! In this particular area you'll find all kinds of different reptiles and amphibians. You'll find snakes, frogs, turtles, crocodiles, lizards, geckos, etc. Since I'm not fond of snakes, I tried to visit the non-snake areas while the rest of the family visited all of the snakes. My husband was pretty impressed with their collection of snakes that included an Anaconda, Copperhead, Rattlesnakes, King Cobra, Rat Snakes and a Python to name just a few.
During our visit to the reptile zoo, we spent a good 2 to 2 1/2 hours exploring the place. We really learned a lot about each of the animals that we got to see and our grandchildren had a really great time. This is a fun place to visit and educational too. It's a great way for families to learn more about the reptiles, past and present.
