The Historic Henry Antes House and Museum

Henry Antes House Museum in Montgomery County Pennsylvania
The Henry Antes House is a historic home that is located in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania. The home was built by Henry Antes in the Moravian style in 1736 and is still standing today. It's currently owned by the Goschenhoppen Historians and is operated as an old house museum. The group offers tours of the home by scheduled appointment.

In 1992 the house was designated as a National Historic Landmark at 318 Colonial Road. If you're not interested in touring the inside of the home...you can park nearby and tour the outside on your own. We have never seen the inside of the historic home but have been told that its pretty much intact and looks original to the period.

It's a 2-story home that was made out of locally purchased stone and wood. When you're standing there looking at it...take note of how small the windows and doors are...compared to the ones that we find in modern-day homes today. The home is small in size and from what I read online, it was/is a traditional 3-room style German home. I can't imagine living in that small of a home!

I had never heard of Henry Antes until we stumbled upon this property, but one of the things I found very interesting is that the home served as General George Washington's headquarters during the American Revolutionary War. If you're looking to learn more about the American Revolutionary War, I would recommend visiting the Museum of the American Revolution in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
