We personally own and use the Official Gettysburg National Park Guidebook every time we visit the Gettysburg Battlefield. If you've never visited the battlefield before, it's quite vast in size...taking up approximately 6,000 acres. The 24 mile self-guided auto tour starts at the Gettysburg National Military Park Museum & Visitor Center.
The tour goes all over Gettysburg and you'll come across approximately 1,400 monuments and memorials. This guidebook includes a battlefield map and what I really like is the in-depth history that you get when you read this book. It takes everything that you learn during your trip and it expands that knowledge even more.
The Official Gettysburg National Park Guidebook is available for purchase at the museum gift shop and book store or you can purchase it directly from the Gettysburg Foundation website online. We highly recommend this guidebook if you plan on visiting the Gettysburg Battlefield.
