Over the past few years we've featured the old train stations in Gettysburg, Duncannon, and Marysville. Today we're highlighting the one located in Newport, Pennsylvania. The Duncannon, Marysville and Newport Railroad Stations look very similar! You can tell they were all built around the same time.
Location is everything and back in the good old days...train travel was how you quickly got from point A to point B. It was also how they moved goods from one area to another. The Juniata River runs through Newport...so the area was a big HUB for local trading and passenger travel.
First photograph in our post shows you what the building looked like in February 2019. The second photograph is from a vintage postcard and shows you what the building looked like shortly after it was built and put into operation. Sadly, too many of these beautiful old railroad stations are disappearing and being torn down.

Thanks, Shelly,
This helps me see what the stations looked like when my grandmother was traveling in 1910. She was going to the Mont Alto Tuberculosis Sanatorium. I'm working on writing her story.
