A lot of people say that Wildwood is the birthplace of Doo Wop music and it's quite evident as you drive around the island checking out the architecture and neon signs. If you would like to learn about the island's rich heritage, I would suggest visiting the Doo Wop Museum and/or the George F. Boyer Museum to learn more.
While on a recent trip down to Wildwood we drove around the island checking out a lot of the old buildings and of course...those famous neon signs! Here are few that we saw during our trip.
Cool Scoops Ice Cream Parlor - If you're looking for the best ice cream on the island...this is where you want to go! They have the coolest interior that showcases a lot of late 1950's and 60's items! You can sit at an old-style ice cream bar or in one of their world-famous vintage car seat booths! Our grandchildren love visiting Cool Scoops!
The Vegas Diner - This diner is open year-round and is a favorite with the locals and tourists alike. They offer your classic diner food with large portion sizes and affordable prices. A great restaurant to visit for breakfast, lunch or dinner.
Harbor Light Family Resort - This hotel is located in North Wildwood and is open from April through early October. They feature 2 heated swimming pools, an elevator and are 1 block from the beautiful white sandy beaches.
Jade East Motel - This hotel is located in North Wildwood. They offer a heated swimming pool, nice guest suites and are pet-friendly. Located just a 1/2 block from the beach and are family-owned and operated.
Stardust Motel - This hotel is located on Ocean Avenue in Wildwood and is an authentic Doo Wop property. They offer 4 different guest room styles and a heated swimming pool. Located near all of the tourist attractions and not far from the beach. This motel has been in business for over 40 years.
Caribbean Hotel - This one is located in the historic area of Wildwood Crest on Ocean Avenue. We have never personally stayed at this motel, but wanted to show off their very cool neon sign. The hotel is located just 2 short blocks from the famous boardwalk and area attractions.
Aztec Resort Motel - This one is located on Lavender Road in Wildwood Crest and is just 2 blocks from the famous boardwalk and 1 1/2 blocks from the beautiful Atlantic Ocean. They offer a variety of guest rooms, a heated swimming pool and free parking for guests.
Parking Lot Sign - We were driving around the downtown area checking out some of the sights and stumbled upon this old PARKING LOT neon sign. This one is definitely vintage and in need of some repair and attention. I hope they preserve it for generations to come. It's a really cool sign.
Well there you have it! Some of the beautiful neon signs that we personally saw while driving around the island one evening. When visiting the Wildwoods we recommend that you take a drive around the island one night to check out the hundreds of different neon signs that you'll see while you're there. It's really pretty at night!
