The
Pennsylvania Veterans' Memorial is located in
Indiantown Gap National Cemetery in Lebanon County. The memorial honors all veterans from Revolutionary War to current times. It's the largest memorial located in any U.S. National Cemetery. It's open to the public 7 days a week from dawn to dusk.
You'll enter the Indiantown Gap National Cemetery and drive down a road that is lined on both sides with the American Flag. Follow the signage and it will direct you to the memorial. There's a medium-sized parking lot with some handicap spaces available for those who need them. You'll want to wear comfortable walking shoes and dress appropriately for the weather since you'll be outdoors.
Designed by Architect - Charles J. Frederick, Jr. of Cee Jay Frederick Associates, West Chester, Pennsylvania, the memorial is 360' long by 85' wide and contains an outdoor amphitheater with seating for approved programs and events. The design represents a worn-torn building and is breathtaking to see. It's a beautiful reminder that freedom is never free and that men and women fight and die to protect our way of life.
One of the things I really love about the memorial is that it's open and airy which allows you to see the beautiful countryside that surrounds it. There are planted trees inside which help to instill that natural feeling. There are water fountains and reflecting pools with benches nearby that you can sit on. They keep it well-maintained and always looking beautiful.
Throughout the year they host 3 regular scheduled events (Memorial Day, Veteran's Day, 3rd Saturday in December) and other specials. You can find a list of those on the
website or contact the Indiantown Gap National Cemetery Administration Office. For more information, call 717-861-8910.
