When I was a kid my family would often visit local 5 & 10 discount stores to pick-up items that we needed. 5 & 10 stores were all of the rage back in the good old days for convenience and price. You could find all kinds of housewares, clothing, tools, food, home decor, holiday decorations, candy, etc. at the five and ten store. My uncle used to call them the Nickel and Dime store.
Those type's of stores are hard to find now and when you do find them they're typically in small towns and locally owned. That's the case with Dellas 5 & 10 Store at the Washington Street Mall in Cape May, New Jersey. It's a step back into time.
Once you get inside the store you want to head to the back where you'll find Margie D's old-fashion Soda Fountain. You can grab a quick bite to eat (standard diner-type of fare), a soda, ice cream, etc. You can sit at booth or at the counter. Food is "okay" but definitely not a 3-star restaurant. Quick and affordable is what you get there.
Since it had been decades since we had visited one we wanted to highlight this little gem on our travel blog. If you're heading down to Wildwood or Cape May in New Jersey...you'll find it on the corner in the Washington Street Mall. There's paid parking nearby, so you'll have a short walk to the store.
