The Cape May County Park and Zoo is one of the nicest zoos in New Jersey. It's located in Cape May Courthouse and is open year-round to visitors. There's no admission fee but they request a donation at the entrance gate when you're entering. We like to donate $15.00 to $25.00 every time we visit.
Hours of Operation: Summer Months 10 AM to 4:40 PM Winter Months 10 AM to 3:30 PM
When visiting you'll find a lot of free parking areas. They're all well-marked and identified. Handicap parking is available closer to the zoo entrance. At the gate please tell the attendant that you need handicap parking and they will direct you to that specific lot.
You'll be doing a lot of walking so wear comfortable walking shoes and dress appropriately for the weather. You'll be outside except for 2 climate controlled buildings (the Aviary and Reptile buildings). I recommend that you put on susncreen and insect repellant before entering the zoo.
At the entrance you'll be given a map. If it's your first time visiting I recommend following the map for your self-guided tour. It will show you the route you should take and which animals you'll see along that route. It also shows you where the public restrooms and concession stands are located.
Here's a list of some of the animals that we saw during our last visit:
Zebra, Giraffe, Ostrich, Oryx, Barred Owl, Great Horned Owl, Ring-Tailed Lemurs, White-Tailed Deer, Common Marmoset Monkeys, Cotton Top Tamarin, Capybara, Toucan, Gold-Headed Lion Tamarin, Alligator, Giant Tortoises, Turtles, Peacocks, Wallaby, Emu, Red Kangaroo, Lions, Bison, Alpacas, Llamas, Camels, Black Bear, Fox, Porcupine, Otters, Parrots, Bald Eagle, Howler Monkeys, Pigs, Cows, Goats, Fish, Salamanders, Snakes, and more!!!
Looking for something to eat and drink? You'll find the Savanna Gardens and the Safari Cafe which have the best offerings. During the hot summertime months you'll see an occasional concession cart with beverages and ice cream at various locations within the zoo.
Right outside the entrance to the zoo you'll find several playgrounds, picnic pavilions (some with and without electricty), a gazebo, free disc golf course, a 5k course and other things that you can enjoy. You need to RESERVE a pavilion if you plan on using one.
