Grand Turk Historic Lighthouse on Grand Turk Island

Grand Turk Historic Lighthouse

The Grand Turk Historic Lighthouse was built in 1852 by the British to alert ships of the shallow reef that sits nearby. It stands 60 feet tall and overlooks North Creek. The lighthouse and the keeper's house are both listed as an historic site.

It's still in operation today but powered by electricity to help guide ships who are passing by. The light extends for 18 nautical miles. Today it's managed and operated by the Turks and Caicos National Trust. Due to safety concerns...the public can't tour the inside of the lighthouse but are free to walk around the grounds that surround it.

Grand Turk Historic Lighthouse

The Turks and Caicos Museum houses various items, including the Frensel Lens from the lighthouse. If you would like to learn more about the lighthouse history or history of the island...you'll want to pay the museum a visit while you're there.

Reasons to Visit Montego Bay

Montego Bay is perhaps one of the most beautiful locations in the Caribbean. Situated on the northwest side of Jamaica, it offers incredible views of the waters to the north and mountains covered in trees to the south. Both land and sea are lush, as the waters are filled with beautiful coral reefs for snorkeling, and you'll see incredible flora on the shores. There's plenty to like about Montego Bay that'll have you returning again and again for an incredible experience.

The Beaches of Montego Bay

Montego Bay is full of public and private beaches, but some of the private beaches are accessible if you pay a small fee. One such private beach is Doctor's Cave Beach, which is a short drive from the airport. The advantage of paying an entry fee is the ability to enjoy the clean, white sand with plenty of space for lounge chairs.

Dump-up Beach is another pretty beach despite its unappealing name. It got this name from an expansion project back in the 1970s. It's owned by the government and is open to the public. It's also known as a local hangout, which means you're more likely to experience some local flavor here.

Spending a Day in Montego Bay

Jamaica is home to more than just sandy beaches. To plan a day in Montego Bay, you should explore a little further. The area's history goes back hundreds of years, and remnants of its days as plantation country dot the landscape. Rose Hall and Bellefield Great House are two that offer tours of the mansions and the surrounding landscape. For a more immersive experience, check out Good Hope Estate and explore amenities like river tubing and zip-lining.

Animal Farm and Nature Reserve is home to native birds and animals and a biogas generating plant. It has an aviary where visitors can hand-feed the residents, along with an herb garden with plants that are labeled with their uses.

When nighttime rolls around, head over to Glistening Waters' Luminous Lagoon for an experience you can't see during the day. The lagoon is full of phosphorescent microscopic organisms that glow when they're disturbed. The organisms glow with a blue light and make the water glow. Don't miss this!

Golf with Incredible Views

Duffers will find plenty to love, thanks to the plentiful golf courses found in and around Montego Bay. The greens are beautiful and have mountainous backdrops on one side and views of the sea on the other. Check out the links on the White Witch Golf Course located at Rose Hall. It gets its name from local legend and historical plantation owner Annee Palmer. It's the top-rated golf course in Jamaica, and it challenges players with its rolling links.

Montego Bay is the jewel of Jamaica with its historical sites, white sand beaches, and outdoor activities. It's a place to unwind on the beach, explore the nature reserves, do some hiking, or simply take in the beauty of the Caribbean.

Palladium Hotels & Resorts Stunning Wedding Packages

Palladium Hotels & Resorts Stunning Wedding Packages
Our daughter is getting married next month and will be honeymooning in Mexico for one week and then heading to the Caribbean for their second week of fun in the sun. At the time they made their arrangements, we had never heard of the Palladium Hotels & Resorts. With that said, hubby and I plan on renewing our wedding vows for our 30th wedding anniversary which is swiftly approaching in 2016. Perhaps the Caribbean is on tap for us!

Today I was asked to share the following information with all of you about some stunning wedding packages being offered by Palladium Hotels & Resorts. Looks like a beautiful place to have a wedding and/or vacation! Information is below.

Through the expertise of popular wedding designer Karen Bussen, Palladium Hotels & Resorts is sharing Simple Stunning Weddings packages for its guests to love and celebrate.

The “Waves Of Love” package was designed with inspiration from both the sand and sea. The venues, all accented with starfish garland, range from a gazebo with gorgeous views of the Caribbean waters, a colonial chapel to present a religious element, an indoor site surrounded by lush vegetation, or an open alter outside on the warm sandy beach.

Float down a seashell path with a bouquet of hydrangeas toward your soon-to-be husband wearing a boutonniere of dendrobium orchids. Two arrangements of hydrangeas and dune grasses in blue, mixed white and green will perfectly accent the venue and your guests’ white garden chairs.

Once you say your “I Dos” head over to the reception to dance the night away. A white tablecloth and blue runner adorn your wedding bar as you propose a sparkling “something blue” toast to your new spouse. Enjoy a two-tiered wedding cake garnished with white shell accents and blue or green ribbon while your guests gaze at a beautiful centerpiece made of shells and floating candles.

Share a relaxing morning together for the first time as husband and wife as you rise with the sun and an oceanside honeymoon breakfast. Save the best for last and end your stay beneath the sunset as you enjoy complimentary wine and cheese.

There are a variety of additional amenities that can be added to make your big day even more special. Relax in wedding bliss at Zentropia Palladium Spa & Wellness with a One Love Package treatment as you enjoy exfoliations, facials and massages for two.

“Waves Of Love” wedding package rates start at USD $2,600 for 10 people.

Hubby would love to visit San Juan again which is great for those who are history buffs and for those who love to see old world cities that have a lot of charm. Cruise Departures from the North East Coast

Cruise Departures from the North East Coast
See the World without Airport Security ~ By Erica Kritt, The Cruise Web Team

Living in the Northeast or the Mid-Atlantic, you’ve got lots of great vacation options that are just a drive away. There are the great cities of New York, Philadelphia, Boston and Washington D.C. There are the beautiful open spaces of the Appalachian Trail and the Shenandoah Valley. And of course the popular beaches of Atlantic City, N.J. and Ocean City, Md.

However, sometimes you want to travel abroad and see the wonders of the world. If you are like me, flying isn’t your idea of a stress free and fun vacation. It just seems to be such a hassle these days. Luckily, the Northeast is lined with cruise ports, which means you are probably only hours away from a cruise ship.
Cruise Departures from the North East Coast

Here is a list of all the cruise ports where you can embark on a cruise from Massachusetts to Maryland:

Cruise from Baltimore, Md. – This port has Carnival and Royal Caribbean ships.
Cruise from Boston, Ma. – This port is home to Norwegian Cruise Line, Royal Caribbean and Holland America ships.
Cruise from Cape Liberty, N.J. – Royal Caribbean and Celebrity Cruises ships sail from this port.
Cruise from New York City, N.Y. – Carnival Cruises, Norwegian Cruise Line, Holland America and Cunard Line ships sail from this port.

The most visited cruise destinations from these ports are the Bahamas and Caribbean islands like St. Thomas (U.S. Virgin Islands), St. Maarten (half-French and half-Dutch island) and San Juan (Puerto Rico). Bermuda is also a popular destination with its beautiful beaches and pristine golf courses. Ships will arrive here each week giving passengers up to three days to explore the island.

In the fall, these East Coast cruise ports specialize in cruises to New England and Canada where the changing colors of the leaves and stoic lighthouses put passengers in a romantic mood. For those looking for a more epic voyage, some ships even make the crossing to Europe. The Queen Mary 2 is famous for her transatlantic crossings. In five days you arrive in England and unlike travelers who fly, you don’t have any jet lag to contend with.
Baltimore Inner Harbor in Maryland

Cruise lines are committed to the ports in the Northeast. Norwegian Cruise Line decided to homeport their most anticipated ship the Norwegian Breakaway in Manhattan. The ship even has a painting of the Statue of Liberty on her side and has a few New York style hot dog carts onboard. This fall, Royal Caribbean will introduce their latest ship the Quantum of the Seas, which will sail year round from Cape Liberty, N.J. This ship has already gained a lot of buzz with the announcement of some revolutionary features like the North Star; a special capsule that passengers can board taking them over the side of the ship and 300-feet above the water for an amazing 360-degree view of the open ocean.

So when you are thinking about your next getaway, the cruise industry is hoping you’ll consider the convenience and excitement of cruising from a port near you.

Have you ever cruised from one of the East Coast ports? Was it easy for you to get to and from the port?

St. Lucia, West Indies --- “No wind, no rain … can stop me, babe, if you’re my goal,” sang legendary crooner Diana Ross during her unforgettable rendition of “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough” at this year’s Saint Lucia Jazz fest.

Well, if a getaway to the island’s romantic Calabash Cove Resort & Spa is your goal but you’re concerned about the slight chance a hurricane could cut short or prevent your stay, rest assured: Should your vacation be interrupted by a hurricane declared by Saint Lucia’s Meteorological Services Office, Calabash Cove will provide you with a free replacement vacation of the affected portion of your visit plus 1 night within a year. Planning a Trip to the Caribbean

Planning a Trip to the CaribbeanMy husband and I love traveling and one of our favorite vacation destinations happens to be down in the Caribbean. If you have never visited any of the Caribbean islands, you really should!

Right now we are planning another trip down to the Caribbean and thinking about staying in one of the casa de campo villa rental that we have heard so much about. A friend of ours told us that it is a luxury resort with full ammenities and gorgeous ocean views. She told us that when you stay in a resort like that one that they go out of their way to pamper you and make you feel welcomed.

We like that they have 3, 5, and 7 day packages which is really cool since hubby and I usually take one week vacations but our daughter and her family take shorter ones. Perhaps they can come down for a few days too, which would be really nice to spend some family time together.

We are also checking out some luxury villa rentals on Parrot Cay, Turks and Caicos islands. We have been to Turks and Caicos before but we have never been to Parrot Cay, so we are considering that traveling option too. Have any of you been there before?

For those of you who love traveling to the Caribbean where do you like to go? Why do you like to go there? We would love to hear your thoughts, travel stories or suggestions as we are always looking for a new place to visit and a new traveling adventure to go on. We would like to go on our trip in late October to celebrate hubby's 51st birthday.

Summer Vacations :: Planning a Trip to Jamaica

Summer Vacations :: Planning a Trip to JamaicaFor the past few weeks my husband and I have been working on our summer vacation travel plans and one place on our list for this summer is to visit the beautiful island of Jamaica. Have any of you ever been to Jamaica and if so, how did you like it?

We have 3 of our 4 vacations already planned so we have been looking around online for cheap tickets to Jamaica and I think we found the perfect deal that fits well within our travel budget. I thought it would be kind of expensive to plan a trip to Jamaica last minute but we found some great last-minute vacation deals.

We plan on going for 7 days and 6 nights and we hope to stay at this luxury all-inclusive resort that we found online. I love staying at all-inclusive resorts because it is so much more affordable than trying to plan for hotel lodging, meals, activities and other odds & ends. I like knowing exactly what we will be paying upfront. Do you like all-inclusive resorts? If so, what do you like about them? If not, what don't you like about them?

This trip to Jamaica won't be until July as we are heading to the Jersey Shore next week for a lovely 10 day vacation. Once we get back we will have a couple of weeks to rest up before we hit the "air" again for our next vacation.

Now that we are older and empty nesters, we really look forward to doing a lot of traveling during the summer travel season. With that said, we always have to look for insanely cheap flights so that we can afford to take multiple summer vacations every year.

Do you have any vacations planned for this summer season? If so, where will you and your family be heading to? I would love to hear all about your vacation plans so please feel free to leave me a few comments below. Thanks!
