Camping and Hiking at Grand Teton National Park

Grand Teton National Park in Wyoming
Grand Teton National Park is located in northwestern Wyoming, north of Jackson Wyoming and south of Yellowstone National Park. The park is open to visitors year round, but access to visitor services vary throughout different times of the year. If your entering the park by vehicle the entrance fee is $35.00 and if you're entering on foot to do some biking or hiking there is a $20.00 fee per person. These fees are valid for one full week.

If your new to Grand Teton National Park we recommend that you start out your visit by stopping in to one of the several visitor's centers or ranger centers. These centers will give you information on where you can go, current weather conditions, maps of the park, etc. Some of these centers have audio recordings and mini videos that you can watch to learn more about the park.

My wife and I enjoy camping and hiking...so Grand Teton National Park was our first stop through the great state of Wyoming. There are several campgrounds located nearby with the majority of them being open seasonally. You'll want to plan ahead for your trip and find one that will meet your needs and make your reservation ahead of time. You can find a list of campgrounds HERE.

The park offers over 200 miles of hiking trails for you to enjoy. Some of the trails are fairly easy walks, some are more moderate, and others should only be attempted by professional hikers and those who are physically fit. The park service can provide you a map and help you choose a trail that is right for you.

Nature awaits you on the Grand Teton Mountain Range and offers you all kinds of outdoor activities while visiting the park. You can go camping, horseback riding, rock climbing, hiking, biking, boating (in approved areas), bird watching, fishing, tubing, etc. During the winter season you can go skiing, snow tubing, sledding, snow mobiling, snowshoeing, ice fishing, etc.

Here's a few common sense tips that you should utilize when visiting:

1. Dress appropriately for the current weather conditions and wear comfortable walking shoes.
2. Be prepared for quickly-changing weather conditions.
3. Bear country! Practice bear-safety by locking up your food and trash in appropriate containers.
4. Bring along sunscreen, bug spray, and a first-aid kit.
5. Utilize the buddy system and never go out alone.
6. Bring along plenty of bottled water and shelf-stable foods.
7. Plan ahead. Know where you want to go and what you want to do before you get there.

We really enjoyed our weekend getaway to the mountains and Grand Teton National Park. We spent 2 nights camping in a nearby campground, did a little bike riding, and some hiking. We're hoping to visit the area again the next time we're passing through. Grand Teton National Park is one of the prettiest parks we've ever been too!
